As we have written before, in the Cracow office of creativestyle an amazing event took place: Hack4good. The main purpose of the event was to improve functioning of organizations invited to take part in it by making use of abilities and ambitions of participating programmers.
The event kicked off early Friday evening and lasted the entire weekend (07.02 – 09.02.2014). There were 30 participating programmers who cooperated, among other people, with representatives of committed organizations (Mam Marzenie, Krakowski Alarm Smogowy, Krwiodawcy.info, Wawelska Kooperatywa Spożywcza, Stowarzyszenie Wspierania Onkologii Unicorn i Kraków Miastem Bez Barier). The participants of Hack4good worked in a couple of workgroups and they succeeded in creating applications which will not only increase social awareness of vital current issues and improve general operations of organizations, but, which is crucial, will simplify everyday lives of people who really need it. Below, there are some of applications created during the hackathon:
- Mobile application which helps the blind to use public transport (I place);
- Mobile application which facilitates deaf-mute sending text messages to the emergency number 112 (II place);
- Mobile application and service which notify of the need for blood, as well as remind registered users about that (III place).
The final of the event took place on Sunday afternoon, and the effects of the participants were evaluated by experts from a variety of branches (the jury consisted of: Ewa Spohn – Organizer of TEDxKraków; Maciek Pałubicki – CEO, Blue Paprica; Paweł Węgrzyn – Dr hab. Department of Games Technology UJ; Piotr Rudnicki – Analytical Lead in Google Polska).
The organizers themselves, including Jan Kraus – a member of creativestyle team, are very happy with the interest and involvement of teams as well as support of sponsors.
Creativestyle are satisfied with the great popularity of the event and we hope there will be more initiatives like this one in the future!
